Panama, May 5, 2022 – Aiming to “keep the opportunity to fly alive, generating connectivity and development,” Viva, the ‘Super Low Cost’ carrier, joins the Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA) as new member. Honoring its name, transforming and adapting itself, Viva has set growth goals, among which it is to open 30 new international routes in the coming years, as well as committing to offer the lowest unit cost per passenger in the world, in an effort to always offer low prices that echo its winning Low Cost model.
Just this month, Viva celebrates 10 years of operation in Colombia and 5 years in Peru, where through its ‘Super Low Cost’ model it has managed to consolidate 46 domestic routes in Colombia and Peru, in addition to 13 international routes to the United States, Mexico, Peru, Dominican Republic, Argentina and Brazil, destinations that are connected from Medellín – and its Rionegro International Airport, José María Córdova – Viva’s main hub, where it seeks to establish this city as a major HUB in Latin America.
Doubling the number of aircraft in its fleet is another goal pursued by the carrier, which also has 23 aircraft, a fleet recognized as the most modern in Colombia, the second in South America and the fourth in the world, composed of A320 aircraft, which are environmentally friendly due to their lower fuel consumption and less operating noise.
José Ricardo Botelho, ALTA’s Executive Director and CEO comments: “Viva has reaffirmed its strong commitment to the transformation of air transport and the democratization of the skies in the region, a mission that is completely in tune with the work carried out by ALTA for the past 42 years. As an association, we seek to contribute from technical and regulatory aspects to continue bringing air transport closer to more people, in more places in Latin America and Caribbean in an increasingly sustainable and beneficial way for the economies of the region.”
Con la entrada de Viva a ALTA, la asociación cuenta con 42 aerolíneas miembro que representan más del 70% del tráfico aéreo en la región.
According to Felix Antelo, President and CEO of Grupo Viva, “we are proud of Viva joining as a new ALTA member, an organization that promotes collaborative work and synergies within the industry in the region. In the framework of the celebration of our 10 anniversary and confirming the important role that Viva has played to achieve air inclusion in the region, we are proud to continue this journey in partnership with ALTA, an opportunity to share our experiences, continue strengthening the connectivity in the region with the ‘Super Low Cost’ model, dinamizing the tourism chain and the development in the region.”
With the entrance of Viva, ALTA has 42 member airlines representing over 70% of air traffic in the region.
“Air transport is recognized for transferring its efficiencies to users through lower ticket costs and more options to fly. Having Viva among ALTA member airlines is a source of pride and a further reinforcement of our goal to continue bringing the safest and most efficient means of transport to more people. New members bring new models and ideas that nurture the work done by all our members, contributing to the articulated work to improve aviation in the region,” Botelho adds.
