Aviation Safety and Training Experts Gather for the ALTA Aviation Summit 2025
The conference brings together leaders in aviation safety, flight operations, and training, as well as government authorities and technology experts in the aviation industry

Mexico City, June 11, 2025 – The ALTA Aviation Safety, Flight Ops & Training Summit 2025 officially kicks off today in Mexico City. This annual event, organized by the Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA), brings together leaders in aviation safety, flight operations, and training, as well as government authorities and technology experts in the aviation industry.
Held from June 10 to 12, the summit provides a platform to share experiences, trends, and best practices to strengthen air safety in the region.
The opening ceremony featured the participation of:
- Peter Cerdá, Executive Director and CEO of ALTA, and Regional Vice President for the Americas at IATA.
- Division General (Ret.) Miguel Enrique Vallin Osuna, Director General of the Mexican Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC).
- Christopher Barks, Regional Director for North America, Central America, and the Caribbean at ICAO.
ALTA's CEO highlighted: “Our region has reduced the accident rate by 72%, from 6.27 in 2005 to 1.77 in 2024, while tripling the number of passengers transported during that period. This is a remarkable achievement, but we cannot let our guard down. Air safety is not a competition; it is a shared responsibility that demands collaboration, investment, and constant vigilance.”
The summit’s academic agenda includes panel discussions on key and current safety issues, such as:
- Trends in pilot training and crew wellbeing;
- Major challenges: turbulence, lithium batteries, bird migration, human factors, and EVTOLs;
- Artificial Intelligence in safety management;
- Regulatory harmonization in aviation training;
- Mexico: risks, growth, and readiness, with participation from Aeromexico, Viva Aerobus, and Volaris;
- Crisis management collaboration: case study of the floods in Southern Brazil.
As part of the event, ALTA's Safety, Flight Operations, and Training Committees—comprising executives from over 35 airlines—are meeting to continue addressing the region's key challenges and ensuring what matters most: keeping Latin American and Caribbean aviation among the safest in the world.
