ALTA NEWS - Brazil will host the largest maintenance and technical purchasing event for the aviation industry in Latin America

Brazil will be the host country of the largest event of the maintenance and technical purchasing sector in Latin America and Caribbean (LAC): the 2024 ALTA CCMA & MRO Conference, which, attended by 700 participants, will bring contributions to the host city estimated in over 1 million dollars in direct, indirect and catalyzed ways.

Over the 3 days of the conference many business deals are carried out between airlines and suppliers, creating opportunities for the industry in the region, in addition to the meetings of two major ALTA committees: Technical Purchasing and Maintenance, dedicated to sharing best practices and technologies for the sector.

Organized by the Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA), the event gets together industry experts to discuss solutions that generate efficiency and maximize the development of the sector and its social and economic impact on societies. The conference also aims to promote networking and drive business. The event has a unique format by promoting over 2,000 meetings between airlines and suppliers, providing an academic agenda that brings the industry up to date with the most advanced developments.

With a trajectory of over 60 years organizing the CCMA & MRO, ALTA chose Brazil as the host, taking into consideration significant advantages, such as the hotel capacity, the tourist attraction, and the robust air connectivity possibilities.

In 2022, around 100 million passengers were carried in the domestic and international market. With a fleet of 768 aircraft, the country has the largest fleet in LAC, and is an imposing market, but still with a lot of potential.

ALTA's CEO, José Ricardo Botelho, highlights the importance of having an event of this level in Brazil. "We are pleased to bring ALTA CCMA & MRO to Brazil. The country, in terms of size, beautiful landscapes and an aviation industry in continuous evolution, has a huge potential to contribute to the development of aviation, and at the same time, to promote its tourism chain. ALTA has been working with the Brazilian authorities to continue advancing competitiveness and confidence so that more companies invest in the country and more people have access to the safest and most efficient means of transport.

Before the pandemic, tourism contributed 8.1% of Brazil's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and created 7.5% of the country's total jobs, according to data from the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC). These figures show the importance of this sector in the economy, but it is still very low compared to what the country can achieve considering its size, tourist destinations and culture. In Brazil, one person takes 0.56 air trips per year. Comparatively, it is much less than Americans, who take 2.5 trips, and Europeans, who take 2.6 trips, on average.

ALTA will be working with the authorities and the country's tourism sector to make this event a catalyst and present the entire hotel infrastructure, in addition to the natural beauties such as the Amazon, the Iguazu Falls, the dunes and the beaches. ALTA considers the country to be an attractive destination and capable of providing a unique experience to the participants of ALTA CCMA & MRO 2024.
