Panamá, May 15th, 2024 - The Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA) is pleased to announce the joining of Star Peru as a new member airline. Membership that further strengthens the network of 46 airlines responsible for over 80% of passenger traffic in the region that actively collaborate to promote the safe, efficient and sustainable development of the airline industry for the benefit of the communities and countries in the region.

“We are excited to welcome the entire Star Peru team as members of our association,” stated José Ricardo Botelho, ALTA's Executive Director & CEO, “The joining of Star Peru enhances the dynamics of our working groups with their experiences, challenges and ideas and reinforces our commitment to work together in order to continue providing more and more people in more places with the safest and most efficient means of transport available.”

With a trajectory having taken off in March 1997, Star Peru has proved a strong commitment to safety, quality and operational excellence. Owning a fleet that includes Boeing 737-300 and Bombardier Dash 8-Q402 aircraft, the airline offers both domestic flights and international charters on demand, providing vital connections among important destinations in the region.

The 330-employee airline currently operates seven domestic destinations in Peru, whose domestic and international air passenger traffic increased 7% and 24%, respectively, in 2023 vs. 2022. Furthermore, following the pandemic, the company strengthened its private commercial flight services, which experienced a significant increase in popularity in Latin America, with a 70% increase in demand in the last three years, according to the newspaper Gestión Perú.

“The membership of Star Peru at ALTA sets a milestone in our mission to promote excellence in the Latin American and Caribbean airline industry,” Botelho added. “We look forward to working closely with the entire team, especially this year as we hold our ALTA Aviation Safety, Flight Ops & Training Summit in Lima from June 18 to 20. This is a key event for executives focused on excellence in aviation operations in the Americas, the Caribbean, Europe and Africa.”

She has a diverse background, with experience  quality assurance and operational management.  As part of the fuel team at Viva Air, she led initiatives that resulted in the reduction of CO2 emissions, SAF tracking and fuel efficiency management. Currently, her focus is on developing innovative solutions to promote the circular economy and achieve sustainability objectives through the implementation of key performance indicators and strategic tracking of environmental goals.
