Captain Andres Ospina, Senior Manager, Pilot Training and Licensing / IATA
Andres Ospina currently serves as Senior Manager of Pilot Training and Licensing at the International Air Transport Association (IATA), leading global initiatives related to Competency-Based Training and Assessment (CBTA) and Evidence-Based Training (EBT) for airlines and training organizations worldwide. With more than 20 years of experience as an Airline Transport Pilot, Andres has implemented large-scale CBTA and EBT programs, advised international regulators, and contributed to shaping global pilot training standards.
Andres began his career in commercial flight operations before transitioning into aviation training. As General Director of Flight Training at Avianca Group, he led some of the first EBT implementations in South America, including advanced UPRT and RNP-AR programs. He has extensive experience bridging operational execution and regulatory compliance, having participated in International Civil Aviation Organization panels and worked closely with authorities such as EASA and the FAA.
He currently holds active Airline Transport Pilot and Type Rating Instructor (TRI) certifications for multiple Airbus aircraft types, with particular focus on Human Factors, Crew Resource Management (CRM), and the implementation of modern training concepts. Throughout his career, Andres has remained committed to advancing global aviation safety, efficiency, and competency-based pilot development.
