Tim Adams, Acting Director, Office of Flight Standards / Federal Aviation Administration
Tim Adams is a senior aviation executive with more than 20 years of experience in aviation safety, international policy, and regulatory oversight. As the Director of Safety Standards for the FAA’s Flight Standards Service, he leads a workforce of over 1,100 aviation safety professionals, providing strategic direction for regulations, policy, and guidance related to aircraft maintenance, operations, airmen, delegation, and safety oversight programs.
Tim is actively leading efforts to strengthen Safety Management Systems (SMS) and modernize aviation safety oversight while advancing the safe integration of emerging technologies, including Uncrewed Aircraft Systems (UAS) and Advanced Air Mobility (AAM), into the National Airspace System. He works closely with industry, international regulators, and operational stakeholders to promote risk-based decision making, global harmonization, and innovation while maintaining the highest standards of safety and operational excellence.
Tim holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a minor in Legal Studies from George Mason University and a Master of Science in Aviation and Aerospace Sustainability, with a specialization in Aviation Safety, from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
